Students have been assessed using the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) for decades.  These assessments were taken using paper and pencil and provided limited feedback to students.  The Michigan Department of Education now has a new assessment system, the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP). This assessment program is online and provides faster results.

M-STEP testing will begin in the spring of 2015.  Unlike MEAP, M-STEP assessments will be administered in the spring only.  English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies will be assessed at different grade levels.
