The Avondale School District 21st Century Pathways Program encompasses the essential 21st Century skills of creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.

In a progressive manner, the program provides opportunities for students to obtain and develop the skills and knowledge students need to succeed in school, work, life and citizenship.

With guidance and support, students have the opportunity to individualize and personalize their learning journeys.

Key Points of Interest

  • 9th and 10th grades are the essential building blocks for productive and progressive 11th and 12th grade years. The Pathways Program is an early start to helping students and families make informed decisions about 11th and 12th grade.
  • Based on hands-on, relevant and authentic exploratory learning experiences, at the end of the 10th grade year, students will make informed decisions on what Pathway they would like to follow in starting their 11th grade year.
  • ALL learners from different walks of life will have the opportunity to participate in a Pathway that works best for their skills, goals and areas of interest.
  • Program expands awareness of post-secondary skills / education options.
  • College and career experienced students are college and career ready.
The 21st Century Pathways Program Encompasses the Following Principles:

  • Academic Preparation and Alignment
  • 21st Century Skill Development: Creativity, Communications, Collaboration and Critical Thinking
  • Social Maturity and Development: Maturity, Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, Self-Awarness, and Interpersonal Skills.
Guidance and Support

What makes Pathways unique is the guidance and support offered to students during their 9th and 10th grade years in an effort to help them make informed decisions that impact the rest of their high school years and beyond. 

Summer support sessions combined with frequently scheduled seminars during the school year will be offered to all students who are part of the Pathways Program. Topics and experiences include, but are not limited to: field trips, team building, campus tours, guest speakers, study skills, time management, job shadowing, portfolio development, career exploration, community service and character education.

Pathways Opportunities
  • Avondale School District Early College Program in partnership with Baker College - students graduate witn an Avondale High School Diploma and an Associate Degree from Baker College
  • Risk Management Insurance Certification Program - students learn from professionals in the field at MEEMIC and graduate with credits earned from Olivet College plus certification from the Insurance institute of America
  • Project Lead the Way - opportunity for students to earn Computer Technology certification and take Advanced Placement exams for possible college credit
  • OSTC Programs - students can earn college credit or real-world credentialing for vocational careers
  • Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement, and OSTC Early College

Relevant and Authentic learning
Avondale School District engages with local businesses and organizations as well as institutions of higher learning in order to provide unique programming for our students. 

We know that our students have individual strengths and interests and dreams that require us to think beyond the traditional classroom. We align with partners who support us in our efforts to provide our students with relevant and authentic learning experiences.
